What is Sin?
Bible verses about sin tell us that sin is lawlessness, which is being disobedient to the commands of God.
If we know in our heart something is wrong or right, and we fail to respond appropriately with that knowledge, that is sin. We are warned that we can fall into sin by our own wicked desires. The Bible also tells us that everyone has sinned and failed to live up to the perfection of holiness commanded by God. Romans 3:23
However, the work of Jesus on the cross, cleanses us from all our sins, and places us in a right relationship with God. He sees all of our sins and nothing can be hidden from him. If we continue in a life of habitual sin we cannot claim that we are in a relationship with God and can grieve away the Holy Spirit from our lives. Choosing to continue in this path of sin leads to everlasting condemnation and death.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16
-Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4
-For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Rom 3:23
-Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. James 1:15
-For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 6:23
-If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 john 1:9
-Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Rom 4:8
-And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:47
-Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 5:14
-If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7
-Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. James 4:17
-He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and -before his angels. Rev 3:5
-Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 1 John 3:6
-But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8
-Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. Psalm 90:8
-Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18
-And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Rom 14:23
-O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. Psalm 69:5
-As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Prov 26:11
-There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Prov 14:12
-For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. John 3:20
-Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven. Matt 12:31
10 Commandments Exodus 20:1, 3-17 And God spake all these words, saying...
#1 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
#2 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
#3 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
#4 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Is Sabbath Sunday? or Saturday?) And does it even matter? (This study will help you to make a decision).
#5 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
#6 Thou shalt not kill.
#7 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
#8 Thou shalt not steal.
#9 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
#10 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.
God also wrote the (10) ten commandments with his own finger on stone: And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them. Exodus 24:12
God gave the ten commandments to Moses: And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. Exodus 31
Sin begins in our thoughts: Matthew 5:21-30
-My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2
-A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. John 13:34
-Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecc 12:13
-Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Pet 5:8
-Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it. Ezra 10:4
Through the grace of Christ we shall live in obedience to the law of God written upon our hearts. Having the Spirit of Christ, we shall walk even as He walked. EGW

-To every one of us comes at times a longing to know more of the great controversy. How did the controversy begin? or was it always here? What elements enter into its awfully complex aspect? How am I related to it? What is my responsibility? I find myself in this world by no choice of my own. Does that mean to me evil or good? What are the great principles involved? How long will the controversy continue? What will be its ending? Will this earth sink, as some scientists tell us, into the depths of a sunless, frozen, eternal night? or is there a better future before it, radiant with the light of life, warm with the eternal love of God? The question comes closer still: How may the controversy in my own heart, the strife between inflowing selfishness and outgoing love, be settled in the victory of good, and settled forever?
